Barely two weeks after a lorry which carried football players from Chitipa to Nyungwe in Karonga prematurely ended the lives of innocent souls, the District has met another fate after seven people lost their lives in the afternoon of Sunday, 18th June, 2023.

According to information from Karonga District Hospital, the lorry carried 75 people, Men and Women from Mwenilondo and Ipiyana who were going to attend a funeral at Vuwa, about 65 kilometers from Karonga boma.
An eye witness, Mathews Kilembe said the driver of the 15 tone lorry, Reg. number DA2986 lost control of the vehicle after bursting one of it’s front tyre at Mlare in the District. Three people died on the spot, one died on the way to the Hospital while three died at the Hospital. The Hospital Director for Karonga David Sibale confirmed that seven people lost their lives, 11 were severe injured while 57 sustained minor injuries.
