Born 24 years ago, from Zimakazi village, T/A Mwalweni in Rumphi District, Lusungu Mzembe is the founder and Director for the yet to be launched Confederation of Girls Foundation (COGOF).
Speaking from her base in Chiwanja in Mzuzu, the visionary and focused Lusungu revealed that the girls have been victimized and sidelined for a long time, hence the discovery of COGOF.
“The Organization will make sure that girls have almost equal access to various social, spiritual, opportunities at all levels. You can imagine, how many girls are Chief Executive Officers, Managers, mechanics, drivers, builders in most Companies and Organizations in Malawi? We want every girl to be empowered in every sector of life”, she said.
The Organization is still in the breeding process of recruiting volunteers within and outside Mzuzu. It is expected to be launched in mid January, 2024 after finalising paper work with relevant authorities.
Block-leader for the area Michael Gondwe was hopeful that the coming in of the Organization will help to alleviate the challenges of youth employment and make them busy than engaging themselves in risky behaviours.
