ZIGWAGWA TIMBER TRADERS BLAME CITY COUNCIL FOR POOR SANITATION.

Timber traders plying their business at Zigwagwa in Mzuzu are accusing Mzuzu City Council for showing them a deaf ear on the state of sanitation at their business place.

Timber traders deputy Chairperson Christina Nyirenda, said for two years now they have been without proper disposal of waste despite several reminders they have since made to City Council officials.

“We can not continue operating in such an environment where our lives, customers and business are at risk. They charge us money but they are doing nothing that the Council is doing to address our concerns. They even fail to provide us with sanitary materials so that we can some of these on our own. The situation gets even more worse during the rainy season because we don’t have a proper drainage as well”, she said.

Efforts to seek reaction from the Council’s Public Relations Officer proved futile as his mobile phone could not be reached.
